We were so honored to have JT Long of JT Long and Company helping us recap the week! If you would like to interview a panelist, or event organizer, please contact JT to make arrangements. Excerpts of JT’s GEW Daily Recap will be included throughout these re-caps!

Green Sacramento was the host of this Tuesday evening event! We could not have had a more appropriate place to discuss “Green Business”, than inside an actual place of business that pride’s itself on being “Green”.  The offer a variety of environmentally friendly building materials and are incredibly knowledgable about each one!

There were about 40 people in attendance, awaiting the hear “green wisdom” from professionals in the industry!

Panelists Josh Daniels, Ingrid Rosten, June Livingston and Moderator Donald Maroney testified that green building is more than a fad. It is a legislative requirement, an economic reality and a commercial success. The good news is that there are lots of resources available to businesses that want to go green.

GREEN Tips that were offered included:

Big Green
An estimated 50 people showed up to discuss green business opportunities.

Quiet Baby Steps
Business Environmental Resource Center (BERC)’s services are confidential and they have a checklist of green steps businesses can take. Sacramento Area Regional Technology Alliance (SARTA) has free mentoring programs for green businesses and Valley Vision offers green development resources.

Environmentally Friendly Pasta
Hot Italian on J Street is one of the first LEED green certified restaurants in Sacramento. Josh Daniels’ Green Sacramento Construction Company did the tenant improvements.
www.dinegreen.com is a resource for restaurants looking for a natural twist.

Trendy Title
Sustainability Manager is a new popular job description at all kinds of companies. One of the biggest challenges green companies have is finding qualified employees, but colleges are starting programs to train on techniques that leave a lighter footprint.

Global Entrepreneurship Week Nov.17-23, 2008

gewlogo

My plan was to blog daily as these aweseome, inspiring events!  With so much going on, I just had to put the blogging on hold! But now, you will get a “play by play” account of the happenings of this past week, including key players, exciting revelations and a spectacular photo jounal from our talented photographers!

If you were not able to make it out, here is what you missed:

A little background on GEW…

Ricardo Robles, of CapSity Offices was talking with Jessica Chapman of Room to Breathe  one afternoon and Jessica was telling Ricardo about the Small Business Conference she was going to attend in November, that was put together by the Governor’s Office in conjunction with Global Entrepreneurship Week.

Ricardo became curious about the happenings on a Global level and did some research on www.unleashingideas.org. When reviewing the Global Calendar for this November, he realized that Sacramento was not on there and felt compelled to celebrate Entrepreneurialism on a local level.

When Ricardo “pitched” the idea to me, I was inspired! We immediately began brainstorming and bringing in key players to help us out. The trick, was that we had less than 4 weeks to pull it all together!

Being an ambitious entrpreneur, Ricardo put together a schedule of 7 days worth of events and Global Entrepreneurship week in Sacramento was born!
